Wedding Speech Tips
Keep it short.
A wedding speech is not a 21st speech. Aim for five minutes or less - they’ll love you for it.
Lead with sincerity, not jokes.
People remember how you made them feel, not how many punchlines you landed. A simple, heartfelt moment beats a forced laugh every time.
Remember who it’s for.
The most important person in the room isn’t you - it’s the couple, or the person you’re toasting. Speak to them, not about yourself.
Say what matters most.
A good speech isn’t about showing off. It’s about deciding what you really want to share - what truth, gratitude or memory you want them to carry home.
You don’t have to be a brilliant speaker.
You just have to be honest. No one’s expecting perfection; they’re expecting you.
Use your own words.
Don’t chase the “perfect quote” or AI-generated line. People know your voice. Use it.
End before you think you should.
Leave them wanting more. Short, sincere and warm always wins.
Practise out loud - not in your head.
You’ll hear what flows, what doesn’t, and where to breathe. It also calms the body.
Keep a glass of water nearby.
Your hands will shake less if they have something to do.
Pause. Look up. Smile.
The audience wants you to succeed - truly. Take your time and let them enjoy it with you.
